Andrew Fleming, Coldstream Hills Senior Winemaker

We sat down with some of our favourite winemakers to learn about what they’re drinking, why they’re drinking it and what they like to enjoy it with. This month, we’re thrilled to speak with Andrew Fleming from Coldstream Hills in the Yarra Valley, who has helmed the position of Senior Winemaker at Coldstream Hills since 2001. With over 30 years of winemaking experience, Andrew is renowned for his winemaking expertise, in particular, in the production of his favourite grape varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Andrew’s love for winemaking started at the age of 12, when he decided upon making his own wine. While not a memorable drop, the winemaking seed was planted.

An early stint at Mildara winery in Victoria set the winemaking foundations, however it was in Bordeaux, France that Andrew honed his craft. In the years before returning to Australia to start his journey with Coldstream Hills, Andrew completed vintages at the iconic Château Haut-Brion in Bordeaux, in the Languedoc region in the South of France, Matanzas Creek winery in the famous Sonoma Valley, California and Seppelt Great Western in the cool-climate region of the Grampians, Victoria.

Testament to the quality of Andrew's winemaking prowess, Coldstream Hills is constantly a focal point for industry discussion, thanks to Andrew’s passion and dedication to crafting cool-climate wines from the Yarra Valley.
