South Australia

Home to the oldest vines in the country, and no less than 18 wine growing regions, South Australia accounts for almost 50% of Australia’s wine production. The Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Coonawarra are well known for their world class reds, with Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley and Eden Valley praised for their exceptional Chardonnay and Riesling.

Randall Cummins – Winemaker

Randall Cummins – Winemaker

Growing up on a wheat farm at Lock on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, Randall was not exposed to much of the wine industry, (although his family were enthusiastic consumers). With a keen interest in farming and science, Randall chose to complete a week’s work experience at the Waite Agricultural Research Institute. After realising that Agricultural Science was not for him, Randall began to spend lunch breaks reading books about wine in the library. Waite was home to the Australian Wine Research Institute, and was soon to become the home of the viticulture courses. From here the seeds of Randall’s future career were sown.
The course began, and from the moment the first wine was made, Randall was hooked. During this time, Randall worked in vineyards in McLaren Vale, doing a variety of jobs. Coincidently, many of the vineyards he worked on delivered fruit to Rosemount Estate. Randall was lucky enough to be employed by Southcorp as part of the graduate program in 2000 and completed vintages at Rouge Homme in Coonawarra and Penfolds in the Barossa Valley. From there, he moved to the Hunter Valley to start work for Rosemount Estate in 2002.
Randall feels lucky to be working with great people and great resources to make great wines that are richly flavoured, accessible and most importantly, fun! Randall believes this is one of Rosemount Estate’s greatest virtues: understanding that wine is about enjoyment.
