This wine forms part of Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard Range, sourced from the mature, cool-climate Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard in South-West Victoria’s Henty region. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt and swept by icy winds from the Southern Ocean, it is one of the southern-most vineyards of mainland Australia.
Riesling was the first variety planted at Drumborg in 1964. This wine is one of Seppelt’s most sought-after whites due to its fruit purity, structure, intensity of flavor and remarkable cellaring potential. Traditional winemaking techniques, including cool tank fermentation followed by a short period of maturation on less are used to bring about the purest expression of the vineyard. The 2018 vintage is a classic example of Drumborg Riesling representing the purity, balance and length inherent to this unique vineyard.

'Many of the greatest wines in the world show themselves from day 1. Power, balance and complexity leap from the glass to illustrate sensational quality. This is one of those wines and a good sign for cool climate Victorian riesling from the 2021 vintage.'

Ultimately, this is a riesling to excite. It is also a riesling that stays true to past Drumborg releases and the joy many feel about Henty riesling in general. You could write a book about the sheer juiciness of Henty’s cool climate, natural-born acidity. The mouth waters, literally. The 2021 Drumborg riesling is all round long, intense, lip-smackingly good.

Waxy texture, a little oatmeal savouriness, pear and green apple flavours, a light juiciness. Brisk acidity, green herbal elements, soapy notes, bread dough and lime cordial. Pretty open and juicy, some good fine detail in the mix, soft finish and some talc-like floral stuff too. Lovely tickle of acidity to finish. Mass appeal.
Lifted lemon blossom and lime zest with a hint of exotic spice.
Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.
Vintage Conditions
A cool winter with good rainfall was followed by cool, dry and windy spring conditions, resulting in moderate fruit set with lower crop levels. Summer temperatures were average to cool, with persistent fine conditions and little rain, resulting in a long growing season and exceptional quality.
