Made in extremely limited quantities from low yielding vines, Wolf Blass Platinum Label is, quite literally, the pick of the crop, a wine crafted to epitomise the best of vintage, variety and vineyard. When sourcing vineyards for Platinum, Wolf Blass winemakers look for fruit which displays the finest expression of the variety, the Barossa region and the highlights of the vintage. In the warm 2007 vintage the majority of fruit sourcing returned to the cooler, higher altitude sub-region of Eden Valley to create this masterpiece, a blend not seen since Platinum's very first release, the highly awarded 1998 vintage. The fruit from Eden Valley provides lifted elegance while still maintaining the intensity and concentration for which Platinum is renowned.
Note: The tasting note reflects the wine when it was tasted upon its release. It has since evolved and developed further complexity following years of careful bottle maturation in our cellars. Our winemaking team have recently tasted this wine and confirmed its condition. It is drinking beautifully today showcasing intriguing aged characteristics that can only be derived with the passage of time.
The dark, spicy Eden Valley fruit has Dutch liquorice and blueberry lift with attractive restrained oak, cooking chocolate, briar and mineral notes.
A complex palate with intense layered flavours of crushed blackberries and freshly ground coffee which is supported by spicy oak. Seamless and perfectly balanced, the texture is rich and velvety with concentrated dark fruits and lingering tannins remaining firm but fine, reflecting Eden Valley's elegance and finesse.

Cool-climate Eden Valley is no lush farmland with gently undulating hills: its rugged, windswept terrain and steeply sloping gradients are peppered with rocky outcrops and gnarled gum trees. Eden Valley’s ancient soils and its varied topography nourish a range of distinctive, aromatic and elegant wines. Traditional grape growing in the region focuses on sustainability and authenticity.
Dry conditions and widespread spring frosts resulted in low yields, small bunches and berry size across the Barossa. About a third of the average rainfall combined with a warm ripening period and late January rain resulted in an early season and conditions remained dry throughout the season with very little disease pressure. Despite the yields, more moderate conditions late in the season allowed for steady ripening, resulting in excellent flavour and colour development.
The Wolf Blass team of winemakers share a similar working ethos – to boldly chase the pursuit of excellence, to uphold and represent Wolf Blass' proud history, and to create wine of exceptional quality.
