Seppelt: A truly sparkling pedigree

Seppelt: A truly sparkling pedigree

Directions

As Australia’s most awarded maker of Sparkling wine, Seppelt know a thing or two about the style. In particular, the distinctively Australian Sparkling Shiraz is engrained in Seppelt’s rich history and heritage.

Sparkling Shiraz (originally Sparkling Burgundy) was first created in 1881 by the Victorian Champagne Company in collaboration with French winemaker Auguste D’Argent – an honour also credited to another Frenchman, Edmund Mazure who worked in South Australia. Seppelt’s Hans Irvine joined the Sparkling train just a decade later in 1890 when he employed Frenchman Charles Pierlot to first produce the ‘méthode tradionelle’ style. Sweeping the wine show circuit since the 1940s, Seppelt’s flagship Show Sparkling Limited Release Grampians Shiraz continues to set the global benchmark to this day with its iconic status and countless accolades.

The current team led by Adam Carnaby draws inspiration from the great wines of the world and from the great winemakers of Seppelt using fruit from an exceptional collection of Victorian sites – the cool Grampians, Henty Hinterland, red earth of Heathcote and famous gold-bearing Bendigo soils. They continue to Seppelt’s legendary Sparkling pedigree. In 2018, Tyson Stelzer named the Original Sparkling Shiraz NV as Best Sparkling Under $30 and in 2017, he bestowed the same honour to the Seppelt Salinger Vintage Cuvée 2013.

With every glass of Seppelt Sparkling enjoyed, you’ll pay homage to the enduring dedication to excellence that has been in their blood since the 1890s, reflecting the best of old traditions and modern innovation. Cheers to that.
