No account of the Barossa Valley nor Australian wine industry is complete without reference to Saltram. Established in 1859 by William Salter and Sons, Saltram has a legacy of only 10 senior winemakers over 16 decades of winemaking.
Saltram fruit comes primarily from the 45-hectare vineyard surrounding our winery and cellar door, from the cooler hills of Eden Valley and the warmer areas across the Barossa Valley floor.
The Saltram Vineyard has predominantly Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, and some smaller plantings of other varieties such as Tempranillo and Sangiovese.
Alex MacKenzie discovered his passion for wine when he was 16 while living in the Rhône Valley as an exchange student. Inspired by the art and mystique of wine production, Alex spent a year backpacking through France, gaining an appreciation for fine food and wine.
Today, Alex is keen to bring new ideas to the Saltram portfolio and is particularly interested in exploring Single Vineyard Wines within the Barossa
