Overview

Overview

Mr. Pickwick's Tawny is widely regarded as Australia's definitive tawny. Its average age of over 21 years makes it unique amongst fortified wines consistently available on a commercial basis.

Mr. Pickwick's is a distinguished wine, rounded and mellowed that can only come from great age and a long period of maturation in small oak casks. It is this which enhances the bouquet, develops the rich tawny colour and deepens the palate. Intense, concentrated and luscious, with a great richness, texture and mouthfilling flavour.

Tyson Stelzer

"A rare tawny; predominantly shiraz and grenache, from a solera system of more than 35 vintages spanning more than 50 years, with an average age 20+yo. Incredible depth and age are proclaimed in a magnificently savoury and complex tawny. Roast nuts, dried fruits and spice of all kinds flow into dark chocolate, caramel, fruit-mince spice and warm hearth. Long age has concentrated acidity, bringing liveliness amidst judicious sweetness on a finish of monumental carry."

Ned Goodwin, Halliday Wine Companion

The old gear sitting around this part of the world is fertile grounds for fine fortified expressions. This is among them. Molasses, orange blossom and Moroccan souk exotica from cumin, tamarind and date scents, wrap their way around some older oak pillars and tangy acidity. The finish is long and nourishing.

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Just one hour’s drive from South Australia’s capital, Adelaide, lies its gourmet capital (and wine Mecca), Barossa. One of the country’s most beautiful and historic wine regions, Barossa is a magnet for lovers of fine food and wine. Its classic Mediterranean climate, and free-draining red brown soils, makes the region ideal for growing grapes. Barossa produces excellent Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Riesling and Semillon.
