“…Wynns offers extraordinary value for money. Investments in rejuvenating and replanting key blocks, under the direction of Allen Jenkins, and skilled winemaking by Sue Hodder, have resulted in wines of far greater finesse and elegance than many of their predecessors.”
James Halliday – winecompanion.com.au

Since the first vineyards were planted in 1891 by visionary Scottish pioneer John Riddoch, Wynns Coonawarra Estate has steadily built its reputation as Coonawarra’s pre-eminent wine producer. Over the past two decades, the vineyards have been meticulously rejuvenated resulting in wines that capture the true essence of the region – varietal character with finesse. And that’s largely due to the extraordinary collaboration between chief winemaker Sue Hodder and chief viticulturist Allen Jenkins who jointly received Gourmet Traveller Wine’s Winemaker of the Year award in 2010.

At the heart of Wynns is V&A Lane – a long, straight road that dissects Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip at its midpoint and divides the original electorates of Victoria and Albert. Celebrated for exceptional Cabernet and Shiraz, the flagship wines of V&A Lane are Shiraz and a Shiraz Cabernet blend. In fact, the Cabernet vineyards from V&A Lane have been important contributors to Wynns’ top wines for many years. However this area is also gaining a reputation for great Shiraz and a marriage of the two varieties is a part of Wynns’ history with the distinctive fruit boasting signature density and richness.

A homage to Wynns could not go without mentioning the famed and iconic Black Label Cabernet. – one of Australia’s most collectable wines. In the words of leading wine critic Huon Hooke, it is ”…one of Australia’s greatest wines. It’s a wine of major historical importance. It’s also one of our greatest value-for-money wines.”
