In the spirit of innovation and experimentation, Penfolds is thrilled to announce two new wines in the range, Superblend.
These wines are made from A-Grade cabernet sauvignon and A-Grade shiraz from a wonderful harvest; new French and American oak barrels of the highest quality …and that much-coveted ingredient, time.
Two siblings, differently assembled and raised in different environments. These two wines are immediately Penfolds, yet different ...propelling varied attributes that will challenge and engage. This powerful pair were released sequentially, but are designed to be collected together.
The first release, Superblend 802.A was released in August 2021. The second release, Superblend 802.B was released in September 2022.
The cabernet sauvignon makes its structural presence felt comprising 68% of the blend, while the 32% shiraz contribution adds generosity. Unashamedly bold, immediately Penfolds.
The Superblend B varietal composition is close to evenly split with cabernet sauvignon contributing 55% and shiraz 45% of the blend respectively. The components were married post vintage, completing 19 months maturation in 54% new and 46% one-year old French oak hogsheads.
This wine will reward careful cellaring for several decades. An intriguing counterpoint to its American oak sibling.
Today, we complete the Superblend series with the release of a limited-edition decanter set with the two Superblend wines.
