Coldstream Hills prides itself for having access to many of the best vineyards in the Yarra Valley. These sites are found throughout the upper and lower Yarra Valley with each vineyard providing a range of unique characteristics to the wines.
Back in the late 1980s, James Halliday introduced single vineyard wines to Coldstream Hills demonstrating their unique sense of place. The tradition has continued with the release of the Single Vineyard range. The 2023 vintage is our first release from the Beenak Vineyard, located in the cool south-eastern corner of the Yarra Valley.

"Beenak is a vineyard in the Upper Yarra purchased by Coldstream Hills a couple of years ago.
This is modern and sophisticated but it’s also a chardonnay with genuine fruit flavour. If you’re in the mood for chardonnay, this will play straight to your mood. It tastes of stonefruit and cracked wheat, flint, gunsmoke and cedar, though there are dried herb, hay and sea-spray characters roundabouts. There’s also a chalky dryness to the finish, which only helps the impression that this is a tip top wine all round. On returning to this wine I wrote: ‘the palate is both creamy and well cut; the finish is long and gently steely.’ It’s well polished as you’d expect but there’s also something a bit primal about this wine. In any case it’s excellent"
Made from vines planted in '89 on an easterly facing slope. Coldstream Hill's first Beenak vineyard chardonnay. A touch deeper in colour than the Deer Farm and just a hint riper, too, with its attractive bouquet of perfectly ripened white peaches, hazelnuts and almonds as well as a little grapefruit oil. Gently textured, this well-balanced wine is already a joy to drink but will still be looking good 3–5 years from now.
Attractive lime pith and grapefruit with white floral notes, hints of nougat and subtle wet slate mineral. French oak is seamless in the background adding further complexity.
Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A challenging Spring across most vineyards with high rainfall and cold, wet conditions during flowering. Summer began with high humidity, but gradually eased to a mostly dry and stable weather pattern. A relatively late start to harvest with gentle ripening of flavours and excellent acid retention.
