The Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay is the culmination of a strict selection process, where wine quality is paramount. Released only in years where the quality is deemed to be exceptional, the wine is made from a selection of low yielding and mature vineyards. The Coldstream Hills Briarston Vineyard provides an outstanding resource of Bernard clone (French clone) Chardonnay adding elegance, aromatics and length to the wine. House Block adds structure and drive to the wine. Gentle handling practices, including whole bunch pressing are carried out, with each batch undergoing barrel fermentation in new and seasoned French oak.
The Coldstream Hills team has chosen the Chardonnay for this reserve wine from three select plots within the acclaimed Briarston Vineyard. This is translated into quality you can taste, with complex fruit and spice layers thanks to careful oak aging. This is a wine to enjoy now with substantial seafood dishes or to tuck away in the cellar for a few years.

Bright, light yellow hue with creamy, mealy, nutty sur-lie characters overlying stone-fruit and pear fruit nuances, the palate delicate and fresh, bright and intense with precision and drive. Hazelnut touches emerging. Refined and long, lovely now and promises to reward cellaring.
What a beautiful chardonnay. Long, elegant, and intense-enough. It wouldn’t necessarily stand out out in a line-up but it would stand out at the dinner table. It tastes of white peach, pear drops, lemon curd and grapefruit, though there’s a grapey character in play too, and slips of smoked cedar, and something in the vicinity of honey and white flowers. It’s delicious, is what it is. Every flavour, nuance, texture and rope is placed with care, and yet it has an ease to it.
Vibrant citrus grapefruit peel and white florals, with underlying pearly barley and mealy notes. Subtle French oak and wet-rock mineral nuances enhance the aromatics and add complexity.
Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A challenging Spring across most vineyards with high rainfall and cold, wet conditions during flowering. Summer began with high humidity, but gradually eased to a mostly dry and stable weather pattern. A relatively late start to harvest with gentle ripening of flavours and excellent acid retention.
