Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday and has since grown to become one of Australia's leading and most awarded small wineries. Situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley east of Melbourne, the steep close-planted vineyards of Coldstream Hills have become a signature of the region. So too have its wines, which reflect regional character, consistency, and style.
Sourced from low yielding vineyards in the Lower and Upper Yarra Valley, all fruit is selectively picked prior to its delivery into the winery. The Lower Yarra provides dark cherry notes and structure, the Upper Yarra complements with elegance, spice, and perfume. The wine is made using a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, including the use of whole bunches. Each batch is then matured in seasoned and new oak for eight to nine months, prior to blending and bottling.

"Some whole bunches and matured in a combination of seasoned and new oak (25%). A very bright crimson. Gorgeous aromatics redolent of picked red cherries, wild strawberry and potpourri. Equally vibrant and energetic on the palate, it's so well balanced that, while delicious now, it will continue improving for quite a few years to come. That it's so well priced is the icing on the cake."
Highly perfumed and beautifully integrated, notes of raspberry, sour cherry, and wild strawberry dance, with underlying French oak, rose petal spice and a hint of mineral graphite.
Elegantly framed and textural, with beautifully balanced acidity, length, and a fine silky tannin finish. Raspberry and strawberry characters dominate with underlying sour cherry, hints of whole bunch spice and subtle French oak adding structure and complexity. An excellent vintage.
Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A challenging Spring across most vineyards with high rainfall and cold, wet conditions during flowering. Summer began with high humidity, but gradually eased to a mostly dry and stable weather pattern. A relatively late start to harvest with gentle ripening of flavours and excellent acid retention.
