This had me at first pour thanks to its glorious dark purple hue; it’s all floral and spicy with licorice and squid ink, dark plums and perfectly shaped tannins all ripe and textural. It’s fuller bodied with fine acidity throughout harnessing the thoroughbred within. This is an excellent wine, still waiting/wanting to find out about its provenance. I believe it’s the first 9th Chamber Syrah. - 96 Points.
Now, why wouldn't you go to Frankland River if you wanted to source fruit for a syrah-style. It's not made that often and in fact this is first I have tasted. It's mighty good. Perfumed aromas of red fruit, mocha and spicy plum engage immediately on the nose. The palate is plush and plump with dense fruit flavours. It's polished and poised with a silky refined balance that heralds a wine of class. - 96 Points.
A shiraz from Devil’s Lair, made in a Syrah style, using grapes from the Frankland River region.
It’s meaty, it’s bold, it’s savoury and it feels complete. This is a statement of a shiraz if ever there was one. Redcurrant, roasted plums, cloves, cream and sweet spice characters come rolled in woodsmoke and mint.
There’s a wide wave of tannin, effectively cabernet-like in its force and authority. Aniseed notes then rise through the aftertaste. This is outstanding. - 95+ Points.
Margaret River’s jarrah and marri forests give way to sun, surf, sand – and since the 1970s, some of the most powerful, yet elegant Cabernets and Chardonnays around. It’s also famed for sumptuous Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends.
Traditional cool wet winter into a dry spring was followed by a warm long Indian summer. This created optimal conditions for red grapes out of Frankland River.
