Created in the 1990s as part of the evolving Penfolds white wine development program, Bin 51 captures many attributes of the Eden Valley locale. The region’s high altitude and cool climate induces Riesling with great finesse and elegance and a capacity for long-term cellaring. South Australia has gained worldwide recognition for producing definitive world-class Riesling and Eden Valley always features.
As the first wine release of any new vintage, Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling offers a window to the future. Elegant and age-worthy, the 2025 vintage reveals scented florals and citrus, a fine mineral edge, and pronounced natural acidity.

"Pale colour. Fragrant pure lime, tonic water, grapefruit, verbena aromas and flavours, lovely chalky textures, superb mid-palate volume and fresh bell clear acidity. Finishes crisp and long with a light chalky/ al-dente plume. A hint of bush garrigue. Very Evocative. 10.5% alc. Drink now – 2038. 96 Points."
"While enduring drought conditions led to smaller yields during the 2025 vintage, the big win is Bin 51’s impressive purity of expression and scintillating fresh acidity. Starts aromatically vibrant - pure Eden Valley - with its scent of apple blossom, spring flowers and citrus with bath salts, yellow apple. Succulent, juicy and, at times, tart like sucking on a grapefruit, it bursts with youthful energy and citrus intensity across the palate with a lemon sorbet brightness. Drink: 2025-2038. 96 Points."
"Taut yet expressive with citrus and apple fruits flowing freely on the palate, an impressive tubular palate shape and a sapid minerality. Finishes long, taut and impressively pure. The Bin 51 has been in fine form lately and this is another great showing. 95 Points."
An exotic bouquet leaps from the glass with a distinctive aromatic lift. Varietal markers are all present. A captivating balance of citrus blossom and spring bulbs, intertwined with hints of pink grapefruit and delicate perfumed bath salts. True to its Eden Valley heritage, this wine exudes a clean, fresh essence, firmly anchored in its regional expression.
A celebration of finesse and vitality. Gentle, crisp acidity supports the flavours that mirror the nose. Citrus blossom and pink grapefruit flow seamlessly, joined by the refreshing crunch of Granny Smith apple and the tang of lime zest. The texture is invitingly soft and talcy, delivering a harmonious balance that lingers. This vintage exemplifies the elegance and purity for which Eden Valley Riesling is celebrated. Perfect for immediate enjoyment yet poised to develop further complexity with careful cellaring.
Cool-climate Eden Valley is no lush farmland with gently undulating hills: its rugged, windswept terrain and steeply sloping gradients are peppered with rocky outcrops and gnarled gum trees. Eden Valley’s ancient soils and its varied topography nourish a range of distinctive, aromatic and elegant wines. Traditional grape growing in the region focuses on sustainability and authenticity.
For the second winter in a row, Eden Valley experienced below-average rainfall. Conditions remained dry through spring and summer, meaning growers relied on stored irrigation water. A relatively warm finish to winter continued into the spring growing season, with budburst and flowering ahead of the long-term average. Summer rainfall was just 22% of the long-term average. Vines flourished in the warm weather, with harvest starting in February. The region’s elevation ensured a significant diurnal temperature difference, allowing the grapes to develop the vibrant aromatics, freshness and crisp acidity for which Eden Valley is famous. The prevailing dry conditions meant smaller yields, however, the region was truly blessed from a quality standpoint.
Key to the success of Penfolds has been a lineage of visionary winemakers. There have only ever been four Chief Winemakers at the helm of Penfolds – Max Schubert, Don Ditter, John Duval and Peter Gago, each a custodian of a rich winemaking tradition that goes back for more than 170 years.
Our current Penfolds winemaking team has more than 100 years between them as Penfolds winemakers. They are constantly refining and improving their work, whilst honouring the winemaking techniques of their predecessors.
