No history of the Barossa Valley or the Australian Wine Industry is complete without mention of Saltram. Established in 1859 by William Salter & Sons, Saltram wines have a proud history of more than 160 years for quality winemaking, innovation, and a commitment to the Barossa region. The Saltram Single Vineyard range was born of the desire to showcase the diversity and complexity of Barossa Shiraz. The soils of the Barossa are amongst the oldest in the world. They consist of a diverse array of ancient rock and alluvial sands, ranging from 1.8 to 545 million years of age. This unique Barossa landscape is the key origin of the regional wines’ distinct and complex characters. Saltram wines have long been known for their richness, intensity, and diversity: this wine reflects these attributes and explores the depth of the Barossa.
The 2022 Saltram Shiraz was sourced from a Single Vineyard off 'Boundary Road' in the Northwestern Fringe of the Barossa Valley.

This wine is aromatic and lifted with notes reminiscent of blood plums and hints of dried fruits and black olive.Blood plums and spices. Perfectly paired with char grilled Sirloin with Paris De Cafe butter.
This full-bodied red wine has a velvety palate with an excellent line of fruit flavours, chalky tannins, and a fine lingering finish. The palate is dense with layers of rich dark fruits, a complex array of spices and a wonderful seamless palate that continues to persist.
Just one hour’s drive from South Australia’s capital, Adelaide, lies its gourmet capital (and wine Mecca), Barossa. One of the country’s most beautiful and historic wine regions, Barossa is a magnet for lovers of fine food and wine. Its classic Mediterranean climate, and free-draining red brown soils, makes the region ideal for growing grapes. Barossa produces excellent Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Riesling and Semillon.
The 2021/2022 growing season was characterised by moderate Spring through to Summer conditions. Coming off the back of a cool 2021, Winter rainfall greatly assisted the Shiraz vines. The weather pattern saw the grape phenology mature in line with sugars levels, producing medium to full bodied wines which retained their natural acidity. At harvest, fruit quality was extremely good due to this mild and settled weather condition.

Completing an Oenology degree at the University of Adelaide, Shavaughn followed in her grandfather’s footsteps undertaking her first vintage at Mildara in 1997. Shavaughn is the recipient of a coveted Len Evans Scholarship; and in 2016 she was awarded Australian Winemaker of the Year by Winestate Magazine and was inducted as a Baron of Barossa in 2017.
