Overview

Overview

This wine forms part of Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard Range, sourced from the mature, cool-climate Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard in South-West Victoria’s Henty Region. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt and swept by icy Winds from the Southern Ocean, it is one of the Southern-most vineyards of mainland Australia.

Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard Henty Chardonnay is an expression of purity and balance. Select parcels of Chardonnay are chosen for their intensity of flavor and mineral acid structure. Traditional winemaking techniques are used, including fermentation in a combination of small and large format French oak followed by maturation on less. The 2021 vintage is a finely structured, yet powerful and iconically regional expression of Chardonnay.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Juicy, white nectarine and fragrant lemon peel layers beautifully with savoury notes of toasted curry leaf, flint, minerality, nougat and macadamia nut.

Flavours and Palate

The essence of powerful purity; a salivating mineral sea-salt line of acid is balanced by lemon zest and white nectarine. The palate is flavoursome and very even with seamlessly integrated oak and a creamy, generous mouthfeel with notes of macadamia and nougat and a slatey, textural finish. This wine will take many years to unwine the potential.

Henty, Victoria

Henty is one of the coolest wine regions of Australia but is protected by a maritime influence. Famed for being the home of cool climate viticulture and the iconic Drumborg vineyard, Henty is renowned for its Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sparklings.

Vintage Conditions

A dry late winter with very wet conditions during October and November. The summer growing season was mild with a cool and relatively dry harvest period. These conditions resulted in below average yields but an excellent quality vintage for Drumborg in 2021.
