Devotees of the rich, minty Coonawarra Cabernet style have much to thank Wynns Coonwarra Estate for. The Estate was founded in 1891 by John Riddoch who planted vineyards and in 1896 completed Wynns famous triple gabled winery, now featured on Wynns iconic labels. By 1951, the region was languishing, but when Samuel Wynn purchased a run-down winery, a profound renaissance began wrapped up in an iconic Black Label.
In 1954, the first Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet was produced and is still viewed as equal to the world’s best. Wynns Black Label Coonawarra Cabernet is one of Australia's most collected and cellared Cabernets. Coonawarra’s global reputation has come from the regionally specific terra rossa soil; one of the most renowned terroirs in the world. Terra rossa (Italian for red soil) is a type of red clay produced by the weathering of limestone over many thousands of years and coloured by iron oxide. Wynns Coonawarra Estate is humbled to possess some of the oldest vines in the region and is greatly credited for Coonawarra’s fame.

When it comes to Australian wine and winemakers, few names are as famous or revered as that of Sue Hodder. Sue is internationally renowned as being one of Australia's finest winemakers after having completed almost three decades at Wynns Coonawarra Estate.
Sue has worked with fellow Wynns Winemaker, Sarah Pidgeon for 20 years, with their combined experience critical to the success of the Estate. Fittingly, in 2016 Sue and Sarah were jointly awarded the ASVO Winemaker of the Year. This is a peer award for two decades of collaborating on “Cabernet Sauvignon for the Future”.
In 2010 Sue was announced as the Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year, with Wynn’s viticulturist, Allen Jenkins. This strong symbiotic partnership from the vineyard to the winery has really been the backbone in transforming the quality, and in subtly redefining the style of Wynns.

Both the V&A Lane Shiraz and Cabernet Shiraz have shone brightly this release, awarded 97 points from Angus Hughson and 95+ points from Mike Bennie respectively, capturing the finesse and elegance of the terroir on which they are produced.
Finally, no Wynnsday Collection would be complete without Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon, with the 63rd vintage of this iconic wine awarded 96 points in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. It proudly continues the unparalleled heritage of one of Australia’s most collected wines.
